RESOURCES FOR FIRST-YEAR GRADUATE STUDENTS AT UMD

Welcome to #GraduateGoals

A UMD Pathfinder to Help First-Year Graduate Students

Finding your way around a new school and a new environment is hard enough without having some guidance on where to look and what to look for. As a first-year graduate student at the University of Maryland-College Park, there are dozens of paths to take and a dizzying array of signs pointing your in all different directions. #GraduateGoals wants to make this transition just a bit easier by providing information tailored toward your specific needs.

Our site provides a select list of links to resources we've culled together from our own research and experience at the school. This isn't an all-encompassing list of links of every possible department, business, or organization on- and off-campus. Instead, it's a pathfinder to guide you towards the information that will be relevant to your initial introduction to this community. We're trying to provide the best starting point to answer your questions as a new graduate student based on our own surveys, interviews, and personal experiences.

On our site, you'll find a list of goals separated by topics for Academics, Campus Community, Housing & Food, Transportation, Money, and Resources. The resources section contains a number of sections on areas of critical need. In addition to the important links, you'll also find some advice shared by current and former students to help cheer you up and motivate you towards success, a brief introduction to who we are, and a fun section showing the 50 Testudos that were commissioned back in 2006 on- and off-campus along with their original locations--something that might help give you some familiarity with College Park and the state of Maryland.

Take a look around and let us know what you think. We're always open to new suggestions. Our goals are your goals!
